Hay, this is Coach Sawyer from Steele Canyon wrestling team. As many of you know Frosh/Soph State is right around the corner. I would like to announce, to both coaches and wrestlers, that Steele Canyon will be having open practices for any wrestler training for this upcoming competition. I know you guys just had a long tuff season of wrestling but off season wrestling is the best way to step your game up to the next level. This is what we are trying to do at Steele Canyon this year, so come out and be a part of it. Both coaches and wrestlers from any school are welcome, as long as we don’t run out of room.
In order for a wrestler to participate in this practice, I will need a copy of the wrestlers USA or AAU card. You can not wrestle in my room unless I get a copy, or you have it with you.
Practices will be held this Thursday, Friday, and Monday through Thursday of next week. I will be running the practices. Practice starts at 3:30 and runs until 5:30 or 6. As long as it isn’t raining, there will be a run, so make sure to bring your running shoes.
We have seen so much out of the youth of San Diego’s section this year; let’s continue to motivate them to be all that they can be. I can’t wait to see what they have to offer at state!

Hope to see you in the wrestling room.

Coach Sawyer,

Great idea but there is one problem

The High School Season is not over so your practice to be held this week for eveyone is a problem. AAU or USA Wrestling is not valid until the season is over. You need to call Richard Malliet ASAP.

I just don't want you to catch any heat.

Thanks,

fortunately, his post did not say when these practices will start, just time of day. I assume they will state as soon as the season is over . . . at the posted times.

Sorry we are new at this and had talked to other coaches who didn't know either and were going to come over. So even though these kids are done we can't do joint "club" practices until next week when the season is officially over? The school requires everyone to have insurance if it is not the official high school team. Do your schools ask for proof of insurance for open mat or club wrestling?

Patrick,
He did say this Thursday and if they conduct this practice under the name of Steele Canyon High School Wrestling, that is a CIF violation, with the wrestling season still going on, and a problem for the high school itself.

Sharon,
You must separate these practices from any connection as a function of the Steele Canyon High School wrestling program by either name or program afiliation. If you have a USA club charter, you can present that to your administration for permission to use school facilities, but because of the CIF season still ungoing, not until after Saturday. per CIF Greenbook rules. If other groups come into the room, they must also have a club charter from USA Wrestling, with all coaches and wrestlers having USA cards. This is very important. Do not mix USA with AAU, I am not aware of any AAU charters for any clubs in San Diego. The AAU tournaments that have been held, I am assuming , were sanctioned by the coaches holding them, under the AAU insurance umbrella. Do not mix the two of them! The Frosh-Soph Tournament is a California USA event, so I would suggest holding any practices under your USA charter. If you need a charter, go to California USA Wrestling on the Google and you can get your club charter online, as well as coaches and wrestlers USA cards. If you purchase cards online, enter San Diego Wrestling Association to enable us to get credit for any card sales that are made online. If any high schools are coming in your room after the CIF season, without a club charter, that would be a major liability issue!! If you have other clubs come in to your room, they would have to be listed as such and a copy of their club charter presented to your administration. I beleive for your liability, this is a slight bit complicated, so be extremely careful. I like the idea of getting the kids into a practice session, but it is a logistical nightmare with your school! If you put anything together like this in the off-season, this can be done with a sanction, listing the school as co-insured. That takes about 3 weeks and only costs $25.00. That protects everyone on the mat! Unfortunately, this is a little late.

If you have any questions, call me!

Okay - no practices until we figure this out. Was going to be run under PowerMaster's anyway - Dale's club which is chartered. Sorry more enthusiasm than knowledge. We'll try to get it right.
